Let it Begin.
Round 2. Or maybe that should be year 2. Basketball season….heeeeeere we go!
This first month may possibly give me a hernia but it’s ok, I scrubbed in a surgery in Mexico for hernias, so I’m all set.
This was actually the thyroidectomy but you get the point.
Anyway, year number 2 just happens to be revving up just as some weddings I’m involved in come down to the wire. So, if I’m walking around like a zombie, it’s probably because I am. Between scheduling basketball practices, working 40 hours and devoting myself to wedding things, along with normal life. November may kill me.
For example, one Saturday in November is going to look like this:
Practice in Kent City
Wedding in Ada, followed by a short reception
Baby Shower in Hudsonville
Wedding Reception in Ionia
There is a reason why I asked to start teaching SS in October for every other month. I’m hoping things calm down by December.
Despite the constant busyness that is going to hit, if I wasn’t already psychotically busy, I’m really looking forward to getting back in the saddle for another year. I love being “coach” and investing myself this way. It’s a lot of time. A lot of energy. A lot of prep. A lot of balancing. A lot of ups and downs. A lot of 2 steps backward, 1 step forward kind of things. A lot of figuring out HS girls (ha!)…that never ends. But it’s so good on so many levels.
This year will be obviously be different than last. The biggest difference, for me, will be the support level, though. Due to the way things ended last season, which moved my sister over to NorthPointe, things have been on and off on edge at my house. I believe things upfront were not handled correctly but when the right people got involved, they tried to rectify the situation – it was just too late. If that wasn’t so, I wouldn’t still be coaching at Algoma. That, alone, may prove to be an interesting challenge at the homestead and I know I won’t see them in the stands this year – nor probably anyone.
Nonetheless, I’m really looking forward to this year and what it may bring. We’re really trying to build up our basketball programs at Algoma, which is nice to see and be a part of for now and who knows how long. I'm excited to have many of the jitters and obstacles of a first year out of my system and know this year will bring some of its own.
Year number 2. Here we go.
Side note, I wrote “here we go” at the beginning with a tune in my head but couldn’t remember what the song was or any other words from the song but “here we go” and upon finishing this post, I finally placed it. A great feeling, if you know it. This “movie” is on repeat anytime a computer is near with Joey, specifically. He will watch it until you say it’s time to stop.
