  • Job.

That’s JOHB. Not Job. Don't worry, not another post about my job. It's a post about the guy in the Bible.

It’s a book I’ve gone through before – at least a couple and we’ve been going through it in Sunday school. For some reason the end of it stuck out to me as Pastor read these verses.

10 After Job had prayed for his friends, the Lord restored his fortunes and gave him twice as much as he had before. 11 All his brothers and sisters and everyone who had known him before came and ate with him in his house. They comforted and consoled him over all the trouble the Lord had brought on him, and each one gave him a piece of silver and a gold ring.

Before Pastor asked his question – my thought was where were his brothers and sisters etc who had known him before when he was suffering?

I immediately thought of this [country] song and this saying.

The 4 friends may not have given the greatest advice but I lean heavily to the fact that they were at least present instead of showing up after-the-fact comforting him and bearing gifts. It says a lot about those people that are present in those times. For me, it’s those friends that mean the most to me and that's the kind of friend I strive to be.
