Oh, Summer.
There aren’t many days I wish I could go back in time. Today is kind of one of those days and only for a slight moment. Over the past month or so of working at the new job, I’ve come accustomed to leaving around the same time as Mom and Lydia as they go off to school. Some days I secretly chuckled that she had to go to school but most days I verbally shared my joys in it. It’s my duty as an older sister. As much as I loved school (all of it elementary through college), I’m glad to be done. The idea of going back to school has almost no appeal to me. Except for one thing. Summer vacation. (Not to mention the other breaks they get.) This week as I went off to work, I didn’t get to enjoy my morning joy of watching Lydia go off to school. She and mom were usually still sleeping.
I wish I could go back in time and tell young mullet one brow version of Bethany to enjoy having zero responsibilities. Sleeping in. Swimming. Playing. Doing whatever my little heart desired and my imagination could coax up (back in the day when kids used their imagination). I thought this summer was going to be pretty chill due to not having a wedding every single weekend like last summer. I only have two! Somehow I went from organizing WCBC’s softball team to being a co-director of the league (probably 100 emails from this past Fri-Sun). I will enjoy having some involvement with the basketball team. Going to graduation last Friday, I realized how much I miss being “coach”. Open gyms will be a nice way to still be involved but not the full force the season requires. Don’t get me wrong, this summer isn’t all things I have to be responsible for but it’s kind of overwhelming when looked at as a whole. I think my phone may blow up when I put it all in but it must be done or I know I’ll forget.
Dad said this in church on Sunday after Uncle Rob turned back to say something to me but couldn’t remember what he needed to ask. Dad’s comment was “You’ve got to write down everything but go to the bathroom.” Truth.
If you wish to know by whereabouts this summer. Here you go. I’ve also sadly made a hard copy on calendars (available upon request...haha). It should be a good summer. It really isn't that busy and it will be nice to have things going that differ from the rest of the year - maybe that will make it seem more like summer even though I'll be working 40+ hours a week. I'm also glad I have an assistant for Monday nights, which means I don't always have to be present - like this past Monday when I was golfing. Oh the life of a responsible working adult. I prefer it over school…most days.
